Buy One Get One...

Was at Home Depot over the weekend and they had a sale on seeds...buy one packet and get one free :) Nice! So I did a little shopping in preparation for the farm.
I got:
  • Spinach (Bloomsdale, Long Standing)
  • Radish (Cherry Belle)
  • Carrot (Mezza Lunga Nantese)
  • Pepper (Quadrato D'Asti Rosso)
  • Zucchini (Black Beauty)
  • Artichoke (Emerald)
  • Beet (Detroit Dark Red)
  • Cucumber (Boston Pickling)
  • Sweet Corn (Kandy Korn Hybrid)

The sale is still going through Saturday so I might have to go back and get some more :) I also started some Sweet Peas in a pot and am going to take over this old bakers/wine rack that we have in the backyard. I think it will look cute.

When in Roma...

Picked up a Roma tomato plant this weekend at OSH and added it to the container garden. Since I have not had much time to work on clearing out the backyard and am itching to be farming something, I have resorted to the containers which I had planned on having anyway. I think I have decided that I will try to work on the backyard for at least and hour a day during the week even if that means going out there in the dark :)

The three newest members of the farm...an Ultra-Dwarf Fuji Apple tree, Ultra-Dwarf Assorted Nectarine tree and the Pink Promise rose benefitting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Costco had the fruit trees for $24 and I just could not pass them up. Can't wait for the fresh fuit :)

Under Construction...

Well me and the "gardener" went to work on the backyard today. We did some real damage but there is way more to go. We got that nasty bush out of the back corner, well most of it any way, we still need to get the trunk and roots out. And I got a bunch of the brick border out. I think I am going to save them and recycle them into stepping stones or something...I'll think of a way to use them. We filled both of our Green cans and Nic ordered 2 more that will for sure come in handy. Lots more work to be done but I am glad we got started and got a chunk done...more to come :)
